We are Nature: Kephalonia

It is critical that Humans realize that they are part of Nature. When we exploit and pollute our environment, we are doing it to ourselves. Our environment needs to be treated like we want to be treated by others. With respect and understanding of our abilities and limitations, not by being exploited and harmed. Art is a way of reconnecting with each other and our environment. It is hard to neglect someone you understand and love. This was the third year of the We Are In Nature International Environmental Art Festival.

This year it consisted of three events:

First, Pierre Leichner’s semi-permanent installation consisting of wheat grass sculptures on dead wine stocks. They look like creatures emerging from the lagoon, moving along the path to the Geopark headquarters.

Ephemeral installations were also made by school children from Ithaca and Argostoli. The students were very creative.

The last component was a conference held at the Ionian Art Centre with local environmental scientists and several international artists.

Planning for an expanded version next year is ongoing.
